:: ASSIST -Rwanda Cottage Industry :

 

   The activities of ASSIST Cottage Industries has  started in February 2004 under the British Embassy   fund . The Project was basically manufacturing  Soap and Candles ,shoe polish .The project is situated at Nyagatare in the Eastern Province of Rwanda  .  
  The 170 already trained Beneficiaries  (Child headed households [CHH] resulting from HIV/AIDS pandemic and 1994 genocide) are grouped into Production Units (65% of them are females)and know well how to manufacture soap, candles shoes polish . In addition to the skills in manufacturing the mentioned products, beneficiaries were taught other valuable lessons like micro-projects management and simple mathematics and accounts ,which are necessary to run and manage their simple income generating micro -project.

   Trained Beneficiaries in Cottage Industry  are demonstrating the manufactured products to the the Former  State Minister in the Ministry of Public Service,Skills, Development and Labour Madam Angelina MUGANZA , during  the  Ceremonies of awarding Certificates  to 170 children, in Cottage Industry skills.

    In order to make the industry more efficient and productive, in May 2006, Rwanda Bureau of Standards (RBS) inspected the industries and advised us on how to improve the quality of the products. It is worthwhile to note that the organisation participated in EXPO 2007 that was conducted in August at Gikondo in Kigali City where the products of ASSIST Cottage Industries were demonstrated.     And In order to improve the quality as well as to increase quantity in production, ASSIST­RWANDA ordered modern machines in Uganda (Kampala),and employed an expert in the field from Uganda to train CHHs . All those was under the financial support from PDRCIU (10 Million rwandan francs) .

 

   
  Bellow are various  machines  like bar soap making machine .liquid soap making machine ,chalk making machine,after a short period of set up and testing, they will serve 170 CHH beneficiaries .
   

The Bar Soap Manufacturing Machine being installed and tested by an Engineer from Uganda (Kampala).

   

This is a Chalk Manufacturing Machine, also imported from Uganda under PDRCIU Fund.Considering the high demand of chalk in schools,the project will make alot of profit.
